FSN veteran announcer Barry Tompkins calls the action, and poker pro Howard "The Professor" Lederer provides commentary.
"We are very excited about being a part of this premiere, televised poker event. Team Full Tilt is one of the most respected groups of poker pros around," said Raymond Bitar, CEO of FullTiltPoker.net. "We could not envision any better partners than FSN and Wynn Las Vegas to showcase such talent."
"This live event is the next generation of poker programming," said George Greenberg, FSN's Vice President of Programming and Production. "Live poker was one of our highest rated shows telecast last year and we look forward to an even bigger ratings winner this year."
FullTiltPoker.net and FSN set the tone for live televised poker. This tournament is:
* The only live televised poker tournament in the U.S. so far this year. * Only the second live televised poker event ever (FSN's American Poker Championship in 2004 was the first) * The first live televised poker tournament from Las Vegas * The first major poker tournament at the new Wynn Las Vegas hotel and casino
And of course, with all these highlights, it wouldn't be an FSN event unless it offered the viewer more than just standard card games. Every player at the final table will be wearing a heart monitor. As they push tens of thousands of dollars into the pot, viewers will get to see if the pros are as cool and calm as they appear or if they are sitting there with stoic faces while their insides churn because they've been put full tilt.

The New York Times to Start a Weekly Column on Poker by Writer James McManus; Debuts Saturday, June 25
Thursday, June 23rd, 2005
NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--On Saturday, June 25, The New York Times will introduce a weekly column on poker written by James McManus, a novelist and writing teacher who is best known for parlaying a $4,000 seat into a $250,000 win at The World Series of Poker in 2000.
"While poker has attracted an immense following on TV and the Internet, nobody is writing the kind of regular column Jim will give us, a literate combination of the drama, strategy, psychology and color of card play that should interest both serious players and the simply curious," said Bill Keller, executive editor, The New York Times.
The column, "Poker," will appear weekly in the Saturday Sports section of The Times and in the national edition of the paper. It will cover the world of poker including its lore, lingo, home games, games held online and major tournaments and it will be written for interested newcomers and aficionados. The column joins The Times's other top-quality game columns on bridge, chess, video games and daily crosswords. The Poker column will be available online at www.nytimes.com/sports.
"Poker is now the country's most popular card game," said Mr. McManus. "The column will help players finesse their skills by giving them a sense of the game's lore and history, which is very much a part of successful playing. It will help readers become better players."
Mr. McManus is the author of "Positively Fifth Street," (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2003). He is also a writing teacher at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. A lifelong poker player, in the spring of 2000, while on assignment for Harper's magazine to cover the competition, he entered the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. He started with $4,000 and parlayed that sum into a $10,000 seat in the event. He finished fifth out of 512 players. He won $250,000 in that tournament. His win became legendary in the poker world and was chronicled in his article for Harper's.

Poker website could be flushed out of Canada
Monday, June 20th, 2005
John Waples and Matthew Goodman
PARTY GAMING, the online poker company planning a controversial £4.8 billion London listing, faces the threat of legal action under the Canadian Criminal Code. Canada is an important market for the poker group but there are doubts about if the firm’s gaming licence is legitimate. The group’s prospectus reveals “directors have been advised that the extent of the group’s operations and presence in Canada may be sufficient for criminal or civil action to be taken”.
The group’s gaming licence was issued by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission in Canada. But the company conceded that there were serious doubts at a federal level as to whether this commission had the authority to issue such a licence. There are also no guarantees that a second licence will be issued.
To reduce this risk, Party Gaming is moving its server centre to Gibraltar from Canada’s Mohawk Territory. The casino and bingo server is being moved this August and the poker server by November. But it will retain a back-up operation in Canada.
